In the design process of a new radial feeder, once the configuration, conductors, and short-circuit levels have been identified, the protection schemes can then be coordinated to provide adequate protection for both people and equipment. This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of protection coordination, covering overcurrent feeder protection as well as substation protection topics such as bus protection. Upon completion, students will understand how to coordinate devices to achieve the main goal—clearing the fault closest to the source in the shortest time possible.
