Risk Management / Portfolio Optimization |
Description: |
Utility executives and planners are increasingly tasked with decisions on what, when, and how to invest in a wide range of supply resource technologies, often driven by decarbonization goals. However, with the potential for new resources to be deployed at various grid levels (transmission, distribution, or customer), traditional planning practices are no longer adequate to explore all energy carrier options and ensure high investment security. This course aims to assist utility executives with topics such as:
• Whether to expand the capacity of a given project in given
time
• Whether to add battery storage to existing project factoring
upside potential and downside risk
• Market assessment, value, and associated risk
• Projects nearing end of PPA term? Need to operate these as
merchant assets?
• Evaluate and acquire generating assets and long-term PPAs
• De-risk Supply Portfolios
• Actively traded energy futures or bilateral forward markets
• Manage near-term supply portfolio within desired risk
tolerance
• Near-Term supply deals and hedge transactions
